Benton Painting Given to Churchill Returns to Westminster after 68 Years

On December 4, a Thomas Hart Benton picture that had been a gift to Sir Winston Churchill in 1946 in exchange for his landmark "Iron Curtain" speech at Westminster College was returned to the school.
"The New Fence," a 12" by 9" Benton image of a Missouri farmer mending his fence, was given to Churchill after his well-known speech by Westminster Trustee C.D. Smiley. Churchill's talk that day was introduced by President Harry Truman, who had purchased the picture from Benton for the College to give to the British politician.
