About the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art

The Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art first opened its doors in 1994 in Kansas City, Missouri. With almost 75,000 visitors each year, it has become Missouri’s largest contemporary museum. 

The museum boasts a rapidly growing permanent collection consisting of more than 1,400 modern and contemporary artworks by modern-era artists from all around the world. Along with its highly acclaimed collection, the museum also hosts exhibitions, installations, workshops, and other creative programs each year which can be enjoyed by people of all ages. 

The Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art houses 3 works by Thomas Hart Benton, including Desert Artist (1962), Persephone (1938-1939), and The Kentuckian (1955).
