About the Hofstra University Museum of Art
The Hofstra University Museum of Art is the art museum of Hofstra University, located in Hempstead, New York. There are two galleries on campus: the Emily Lowe Gallery and the David Filderman Gallery, which were both established in 1963. Its permanent collection comprises more than 5,200 works of art and cultural artifacts, with pieces from 1500 BCE through to contemporary art.
The museum collection includes 5 works of art by Thomas Hart Benton, a prominent figure in modern American art whose murals are globally recognized. Benton’s artworks available at the Hofstra University Museum of Art include Gateside Conversation (1946), Loading Corn (Shucking Corn) (1945), White Calf (1945), Night Firing (Tobacco Firing) (1943) and the Letter From Overseas (1943).
